Our goal was to not repeat a cab capture that is available elsewhere, and yet here we are again. Most, if not all of you probably have a Mesa Rectifier 4x12 capture or cab pack from another IR maker, or even IR’s that come standard pre-installed in your modeler/load box of choice. I had access to a great example of this cab with “the” speakers and figured this would be a good opportunity to let you compare our captures of a cab that you might have and/or be very familiar with.

The Cherry Sun Sounds RCTO V30 4x12 is based on a Mesa Boogie™ 4x12 Standard OS (slant baffle with the straight sides) Rectifier Cabinet™ loaded with a “Holy Grail UK Made 8ohm T3445” 70w Celestion Vintage 30™ Speakers.

Each shot was taken on various points of the speaker in a pseudo DynaCab™ fashion and how I go about micing cabs in the studio. I fine tune the low end to my taste with the distance from the speaker, then File Numbers 01, 02, 03...etc. are the microphones speaker position from the cone to edge for high end brightest to darkest.

For the “Standard Ribbon/Dynamic Mic Combo” use a “…07.wav” file mixed with the “…CLOSE_CENTER.wav” of the Ribbon Mic captures.

One of my favorite combos so far is a 50/50 mix of “CS_4x12_RCTO_V30_M88_09” with “CS_4x12_RCTO_V30_121_CLOSE_CENTER”

CC8 - Based on Austrian Audio™ CC8

Which files to use:

All captures are 24bit 500ms MPT (Minimum Phase Transformed) format that is phase aligned with most modelers’ user cabinets. This Cab Pack is compatible with all modelers and IR loaders that support .wav format IR’s. Hardware units that require shorter files will automatically truncate 500ms files to the unit’s preferred length upon import.

Please refer to your hardware unit’s manual to determine which sample rate is right for and how to load them into your particular system.

48k - For use with Fractal™, Line 6™, Boss™, and most modeling units.

44.1k - For use with Kemper™ units.

96k - For use with Strymon™ Iridium.
